Ankylosing spondylitis is an immune-mediated auto inflammatory disease that can cause arthritis, inflammation, enthesitis, calcification, fusion, costochondritis, eye disease, gut disease, lung disease, and even heart disease. It’s trying to fuse my spine into one long bone, rot my hips, and seize my rib cage while snacking on my smaller joints. It’s disabling, painful, and exhausting.
